Overview

Course Description:
This is a Self-paced course, with 6 days of Instructor assisted Labs. The course provides Active Directory Technology Specialists with the knowledge and skills to configure manage and troubleshoot Active Directory Domain Services and Group Policy in a distributed environment. Delegates will also configure identity and access solutions with Windows Server 2008 Active Directory.

Delegates will be supplied with a Microsoft Self-Paced training book which contains lessons, exam tips, practice tests and hands-on exercises to be performed on Windows 2008 servers running as Virtual Machines.

Delegates should study the course materials at home, and choose 6 days from the available dates on which to attend the Instructor-assisted labs. On these days, a qualified instructor will be available to assist with Labs, explain course material and provide additional knowledge and expertise.

This course also prepares the delegate for the Microsoft exam 070-640 – Configuring Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Technology Specialist (Active Directory).

Course Objectives:
The primary audience for this course are AD Technology Specialists, Server Administrators, and Enterprise Administrators who want to learn how to implement AD in a distributed environment, secure domains using Group Policies, and perform backup, restore, and monitor and troubleshoot AD configuration to ensure trouble free operation

The audience for this course is also IT Professionals interested in learning how to implement Identity and Access (IDA) solutions in an enterprise environment. Most delegates will be IT professionals who are responsible for integrating applications and platforms with enterprise directory and security services while increasing access to a growing number of customers and partners.

Before attending this course, students must have:

  • Basic understanding of networking
  • Intermediate understanding of network operating systems
  • An awareness of security best practices
  • Basic knowledge of server hardware, A+ or equivalent knowledge
  • Some experience creating objects in Active Directory
  • Foundation course (6424) or equivalent knowledge
  • Basic concepts of backup and recovery in a Windows Server Environment

  • Install Active Directory Domain Services including read-only Domain Controllers
  • Configure Active Directory Integrated Zones and read-only DNS zones
  • Configure Active Directory Objects and groups
  • Delegate Administrative access to AD DS objects
  • Configure AD DS trusts. Sites and Replication
  • Create, manages and troubleshoot Group Policy Objects and their application
  • Deploy software using Group Policy
  • Implement fine-ingrained password policies
  • Restrict group membership and access to software
  • Manage security using security templates
  • Monitor AD DS using Event Viewer and reliability and performance monitor
  • Configure AD DS Auditing
  • Back up and restore the AD DS
  • Describe identity and access solutions
  • Configure Active Directory Certificate Services and certificates
  • Configure Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services
  • Configure Active Directory Federation Services
  • Configure Active Directory Rights and Management Services
  • Maintain access management solutions
  • Troubleshoot identity and access solutions
