Overview
Manual handling covers a wide variety of tasks including lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling and carrying. If any of these tasks are not carried out safely then there is a risk of injury. Health and Safety Executive statistics show that manual handling causes more than a third of all reported injuries, which result in staff being off work for more than three days. The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Principles of Manual Handling course is aimed at those who carry out manual handling activities at work and gives employees essential knowledge and understanding of manual handling basics. It is recommended that delegates hold the CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety before attending the Principles of Manual Handling course, but this is not essential.
